Hastings Island Hunting Preserve is pleased to support both dog clubs and individuals who want to enhance their dogs’ skills in the field. Throughout the year, subject to availability, we offer chukar and pheasant for sale to assist in your dog’s training. Birds can be purchased via a pheasant card (during the pheasant season) or chukar card (all year long), offering a more economical option. You may also buy birds individually, but please note that the cost will be higher compared to purchasing through a card.
During our off-season, from mid-March to mid-September, the Club’s 800 acres of natural grass fields are available for dog training. However, the farm fields are off-limits to Club members during this period due to ongoing agricultural activities.
From mid-September to mid-March, during our regular hunting season, dog training is not permitted in the hunting fields. Once the farming activities are completed—typically by mid-October—we designate an alfalfa field which can be used for dog training.
While we encourage dog training, it’s important to remember that our primary focus is on hunting. We are not a dog training facility. If you’re in the hunting fields during hunting season, you should be actively hunting. Any member found “bumping” birds—i.e., flushing birds without making a genuine attempt to shoot them—will be in violation of Club rules and may face the loss of their membership.
